Research Progress on Specialty Tea Germplasms of Fujian

  • Abundant varieties of teas are unique in Fujian that need be carefully preserved. Being vital for the conservation of genetic diversity and biochemical characteristics, these specialty germplasms are critical in breeding new varieties and improving market value of the existing cultivars. This article reviews the studies on the teas with high contents of amino acids, polyphenols, caffeine (or low), theacrine, EGCG, and/or EGCG3"Me, as well as varied leaf colors and aromatics. Potential applications of some of these germplasms are discussed.
