Test on New Tea Variety, ‘Fuming 2’

  • Objective A national test on the newly bred early-maturing, high-yield, highly aromatic tea, ‘Fuming 2’ was conducted.
Method Using ‘Huangdan’ as control (CK) at the national test on new varieties of tea, Fuming 2 was scrutinized for quality and agronomic performance in regions including Fu'an, Songxi, and Fuzhou from 2016 to 2021. Survival rate, phenological phases, fresh leaf yield, and resistance to stresses of the plant and sensory quality of the brewed tea were evaluated.
Result Fuming 2 grew well with a survival rate greater than 89%. The one-bud-one-leaf, one-bud-two-leaves, and one-bud-three-leaves phases of the plants emerged one to two days earlier than did those of CK. The plant was strongly resistant to low temperature, draught, diseases, and pest infestation. Compared with CK, it showed 5% higher on the fresh leaf yield and received 0.5~1.1 higher sensory score on the brewed tea.
Conclusion Fuming 2 was judged at the national test as an early-maturing, high-quality, high-yield, and highly resistant new oolong tea that could be promoted for cultivation in Fuan, Songxi, Fuzhou, and similar regions.
