A Stage Show for Cross-Strait Cultural Tour: Tea Appreciation and Common Ancestry

  • As tea drinking becomes increasingly a welcoming addition to the tours for visitors from Taiwan, stage performances extoling the traditional culture and common ancestry of Chinese living across the strait have evolved and flourished in recent years. As a result, the development also generates events like the Tea-art Vocational Skills Competition to showcase outstanding works and acknowledge achieving professionals in the artistic arena. In 2023, the show titled “Tea Appreciation and Common Ancestry” was presented in the contest held in Fujian. It creatively integrates sightseeing with relaxing leisure and sentimental yearnings to entertain and enlighten the travelers. The innovative approach exemplified how an exploration of cultural heritage could ignite exciting new development for the tourism industry as well as a deepened appreciation of the bond between people separated by the strait. Inspired by the prospect, this article analyzes the play’s background, author’s aspiration, exquisite stage design, and challenges to overcome for readers interested in creating a show with the intent of promoting cultural exchange, people connection, and cross-strait tourism.
