Predation of Orius Sauteri on Pest Insects of Tea Bushes

  • The predation behaviors of Orius sauteri on two pest insects of tea bushes were studied in laboratory. The results showed that the responses of O. sauteri toward the insects could be described by the Holling Ⅱ equation. The predative activities of O. sauteri increased with increasing prey population, but the searching rate declined as the insect density was reduced. The maximum number of adult Dendrothrips minowai Priesner an O. sauteri could consume in a day was 26.25; whereas, it was 19.68 on 2-to 3-year-old nymphs or 22.33 eggs of Empoasca onukii Matsuda.
